The interim objects presented here are the result of a creative method developed by Wulf Mohrmann. He applies this method to the realm of ideas: the idea of a table, a shelf, a stool. The objects are tools which – thanks to their improvised, raw and unfinished character – open up new perspectives. They are intended to be used as a starting point for design-related work. The objects openly display their qualities, making rapid analysis possible and serving as a supercharged way of generating ideas. This process adheres to three guiding principles: 1. The objects are made from semi-finished products and raw materials. 2. The materials stem from a context that is atypical for the design idea. 3. The construction is open and immediately recognizable. Mohrmann provokes the materials and experiments with their limits. He combines apparently incompatible elements to create something new: something heavy that is suspended; something feather-light and voluminous, yet very stable; something soft that has a high degree of strength.
Die vorgestellten Zwischenobjekte sind Ergebnisse einer kreativen Methode, die Wulf Mohrmann entwickelt hat. Diese Methode wendet er an auf das Reich der Ideen: der Idee von einem Tisch, von einem Regal, von einem Hocker. Die Objekte sind Hilfsmittel, die durch ihren improvisierten, rohen und unfertigen Charakter neue Perspektiven eröffnen. Sie sollen als Ausgangspunkte für eine designrelevante Arbeit genutzt werden. Die Objekte zeigen offen ihre Eigenschaften und ermöglichen eine schnelle Analyse, um so als Gedankenturbo zu dienen. Der Prozess folgt drei Regeln: 1. Die Objekte werden aus Halbzeugen und Rohmaterialien gebaut. 2. Die Materialien müssen aus einem Kontext stammen, der für die Gestaltungsidee untypisch ist. 3. Die Konstruktion soll offen liegen und muss erkennbar sein. Mohrmann provoziert das Material und experimentiert an seinen Grenzen. Er verbindet scheinbar Unvereinbares und es entsteht etwas Neues: etwas Schweres, das schwebt; etwas federleichtes Voluminöses, das sehr stabil ist; etwas Weiches, das eine hohe Festigkeit hat.
